2020: The Year of
Distance Learning
The year 2020 was supposed to bring laughter and smiles but it only brought sadness and sickness. With the Coronavirus, protests, fires, TikTok, Tiger King and many other surprises; 2020 really wanted to make sure we had it all in one year. The topic that got everyone taking the Coronavirus seriously was the cancellation of school and moving to online learning.
The people that were really shaken by distance learning were the actual teachers. Teachers were forced to teach from their homes. Some teachers did not even have the resources to teach from home so they had to find a new way to teach their students.
The hardest part of distance learning is the interaction between students and their teachers. Students would not turn on their cameras unless they were forced to by school rules. Teachers were trying to make distance learning enjoyable and beneficial, but some students took this as an extension of summer vacation. The photos shown are what teachers look like to their students. The teachers are not able to walk around a room or write on boards without having some difficulty with sound, visuals, and the students themselves. Most of the time students are not even paying attention or they are in another room because their camera is off.
Teachers are the foundation of doctors, world leaders, businessmen and women, drivers, artists, musicians, and so many others. This pandemic has shown how much this world truly needs teachers. More people need to be aware of what teachers have gone through in 2020 and are still going through in 2021 as well.
